SECORD TOWNSHIP Trash/Recycle Announcement:
Republic Services is committed to continuing to provide garbage and refuse collection to the residents of your community. During this unprecedented situation that all of us find ourselves in with COVID -19 (Coronavirus), Republic Services will need to make the following changes:
• Republic will collect CART contents only. Any items outside of the trash cart will not be collected.
• Bulk collection (e.g., couch, chair, television, carpet) will be temporarily suspended.
Please do not place these items out to the curb at this time.
• Cardboard intended for recycling will have to be cut down and placed inside of the recycle cart.
• During this time we understand that you may be producing more trash than will fit in your weekly trash cart. Please feel free to use your recycle cart for this excess. However, the container must be clearly labeled as TRASH.
* Yard waste will not be picked up until further notice. Please do not set bags out. They will NOT be collected.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Republic Services' number one priority is the safety of our employees, residents, and the communities that we serve. Limiting the exposure of our employees will help slow the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). As this unique situation is rapidly changing we will keep the communities up to date on any and all changes to your service

LETTER TO TOWNSHIP

Based on the pictures provided yesterday, I do feel that Blue Green Algae is present in Secord Lake. Casey made notification to EGLE for testing to take place. Like all algae, Blue Green algae can come and go quickly and will move around with wind as well. I would recommend that if it is concentrated on a shoreline, to avoid it and never swim or allow pets/people to drink water with Blue Green algae present. As soon as we get any testing results, we will share those as well. Not all Blue green algae has toxins, but should be avoided as a safety precaution. This does not mean that the entire lake has a bloom, it can be isolated. It is not uncommon to have a bloom with hot weather and sunshine, let alone a nutrient rich system.

When calling Republic Waste for large item pick up, please be sure to say your complete address AND that you are in
Secord Township. There is an issue with addresses on their end and they need to know the specific township where the item is located.
