Secord Township Fire Board Fire Board Meeting: December 8, 2009 Board Members Present: Chair, Russ Norton, Arnold Welch, Deb Podoley, Maxine Larson, Larry Santamour Fire Department Present: Chief, Fred Shaver Corrections to minutes for November 10, 2009: Change dates on minutes. Should read Fire Board Meeting November 10, 2009 and corrections to minutes for meeting October 12,2009. All ayes Proceeding: Meeting called to order by Chair, Russ Norton at 7:05 p.m. Old Business: Tower Update: The Tower was completed on December 4, 2009. The final bill for the tower ha been submitted for payment in full. All inspections are complete. Because of the season the chief will receive 50# of grass seed for spring planting. Two letters were submitted for the use of the tower, for internet service. 1. Endless Journey, Inc. will provide the township with the following: One Ethernet line from the tower to the fire hall with attached secure wireless router and any internal wiring needed to connect existing computers to the internet, (this will provide high-speed internet access to the fire hall and any/all computers inside). 2. BPL Michigan, will provide the fire hall and the township hall free high-speed internet. Along with the above they will also provide $1.00 for every customer that have signed up using the Secord tower per month. Example: if 500 customers sign up the township will receive $500.00 per month as long as BPL have those Customers and as the customer base grows the monthly revenue that you will receive will grow also. BPL ask in return is a 2 year contract that the township will not put any other internet service provided companies on the tower. At the end of the 2 year contract they will re-evaluate the contract. It was the recommendation from the Fire Board Committee members to accept Endless Journey, Inc as the internet provider for the township. Grant Update: Chief Shaver indicated that a DNR grant has been approved for the Gladwin Fire Department, but he has received no word as to the DNR grant or the Homeland Security Grant for Secord Township. AED ^Automated External Defibrillators') Uodate: Chief Shaver received a letter from Cardiac Science, Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs stating that the AED's manufactured between August 2003 and August 2009 may experience a rare product issue. The AED's have resistors which may fail and failure will not be detected by the AED's periodic self test. If this should occur the AED may not be able to deliver therapy during a rescue attempt and may affect resuscitation of the patient. This issue is predicted to occur hi approximately one in 75,000 AED's. By May 2010 Cardiac Science will have a software update available that enhances the AED's self-test capability to detect this issue. The models affected include Powerheart 9300A, 9300C, 9300D, 9300E, 9300P, 9390A, 9390E: And Cardio Vice 92531, 92532, and 92533. It is highly recommended that you keep the AED's hi service and regularly check the status on the front of the AED. Dry Hydrant Update: The Wirtz Rd. fire hydrant continues on hold for repairs until the trees have been removed. Larry Santamour Indicated that he has a crew ready for the tree removal. Fireman's Appreciation Dinner: The invitations are complete, and the tickets are being printed at this time. Deb Podoley will check into the presentation awards. The dinner will be held for the Secord Twp. Fire Dept as well a Clement Twp. Fire Dept. Details: Place: Secord Lake Eagles Aerie 4121 3485 N. Lakeshore Dr. Gladwin, MI 48624 Date: February 27, 2010 Time: 6:00 Refreshments 7:00 Dinner 8:00 Awards Presentation New Business: ICS 300 and 400 classes must be completed and is mandatory for all fire department officers only, by October, 2010. The cost is paid thry the Regional Homeland Security Office. Runs: motion made by Maxine Larson and 2nd by Deb Podoley to approve the runs with a noted change. Remove from list a call for Shawna Ward, she should not have been on the list as she does not have the proper training. A total of $20.00 should be removed for the amount due. All ayes Chief Shaver also indicated that the department is down 23 call from last year. Bills: Motion made by Chair, Russ Norton and 2nd by Larry Santamour to approve the bills. All ayes Fire Run Bills: There were 2 appeals submitted. Registered letters have been sent to the residents as well as the township attorney.
